Ever have one of those days where things are going great, so you whistle to yourself while you walk, and the second you blink you walk right into a lamppost? Non-literal example, but that's where writing took me today.
See, I'm cleaning up a three-year old script that's in a few variant forms. There's the screenplay from 2009, the stageplay from 2011, and a quarter-finished draft from six months ago. All while trying to make the necessary changes to the story to make it all fit together right. For example, didn't realize until today that in the first real scene, one of the characters literally gets six lines (five in the drafts since last year). And yet she's a persistent character and this is supposed to lay the groundwork for her later appearances. So that needs fixing.
The downside to the latest burst of writing enthusiasm is that my weekend is pretty well spoken for at this point, so as far as getting any writing done I've really only got until my car is done being dead tomorrow afternoon. The upside: air conditioning! I don't have to put the "die" in "drive" anymore.
Let it never be said, by the way, that writing card games into scripts is easy. Holy hell, man.
Gotta know when to fold em.
